Oh No! Scott Brown!

Today is the Massachusetts Senate Special Election. The seat up for grabs was held by the late Senator Kennedy for 46 years. His passing marked the end of America’s best known political dynasty, but no one expected that it would also lead to one of the closest Senate races in the history of the Commonwealth as well as the country. The next senator from Massachusetts holds the key to continued Democratic control of the Senate. Massachusetts has always been a Democratic stronghold, especially in terms of its representation in Washington. The last Senate election saw Republican Jeff Beatty massacred by the amazingly unelectable yet always reelected John Kerry. This was no different from all Senate elections in the state held since 1978, when Republican Edward Brooke lost his seat to Democrat Paul Tsongas. When the special election was announced this summer there was no reason to suspect that the result would be other than a Democratic rout of a token GOP candidate.

All seemed to be going according to plan when Martha Coakley won the Democratic primary in what most saw as the actual election. However, cracks began to form following the Democratic Primary, as many independent Massachusetts voters have become disillusioned with the Obama plan for health care reform as well as the lack of leadership coming from both the White House and Capitol Hill in reducing the ballooning national debt. Democratic voters had chosen, as the primaries often do, a candidate lying on the extreme edge of the political spectrum. This combined with Martha Coakley’s weak campaigning means that Republicans are closer than ever to capturing a Senate seat in Massachusetts, and perhaps more importantly, derailing the Democratic agenda on Capitol Hill. Scott Brown’s vote would allow Republicans to filibuster legislation, making it nearly impossible to pass the health care legislation in its current form.

Thus the election that was once a sure thing has become a toss-up– one that seems increasingly unlikely to turnout in the Democrats’ favor. They could still win here in Massachusetts.  The mere fact that this election is seriously under contention is an indication of increasing unrest amongst Americans towards Democratic policies. A loss in Massachusetts will require massive damage control on the part of the Democrats to avoid more defeats this November.

  1. Martha is out of touch with the residents of Massachusetts. She’s mired in ideology and not reality. She denies there being terrorists in Afghanistan just days after a suicide bomber kills 7 CIA agents and just days before another one blew himself up in an Afghan market killing men, women, and children.

Its time for real solutions and I would give a Republican a chance. He’s only in there until the end of the full term so he has 2 years to show that he was worth voting for. If not, its back to Democrats.

Obama’s health care plan has gone out of control. It has gone into the backrooms where the union workers work out special deals to have the health care tax waived for them. So how would Obama make up for that? The taxes on non-Union members would be EVEN higher to make up for it. Is that fair?

And is it fair for Massachusetts to have to foot a large portion of the taxes for this bill when 98% of Massachusetts residents already have health care because of state funded health insurance? Massachusetts won’t be benefitting from this bill but will be footing a good portion of the bill.

Vote Scott Brown, bring the Democrats back to reality so they can govern efficiently and stop being so arrogant.

  2. Does anyone really understand the basics of Obama’s Health Care Plan?

Fundamentally, it is designed to cover the UNINSURED by pushing the expenses onto citizens that ALREADY have Health Care.

    Translation: Another WELFARE.

Obama did not address the issues of Medical Lawsuits or the high
prices of the US Drug Companies. He _did_ exempt Unions from paying
    into this new program.

No sensible person should support another entitlement program.
