Sarah Silverman is BACK

My usual go-to television show for all things trash, controversy and vulgarity is “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Luckily for me, whenever a season of “Sunny” ends, a new season of “The Sarah Silverman Program” begins to fill the void.

Now don’t get me wrong, all of the adjectives listed above are actually good things. “Sunny” is easily one of the best comedies on television right now (“30 Rock” being THE best) and for those who think it’s just about stupid guys screaming at each other, you’re missing the point, and I actually feel really bad for you.

But I digress.

For those unfamiliar with “The Sarah Silverman Program,” each episode follows Sarah and her insane antics, accompanied by real life sister, Laura Silverman, Laura’s boyfriend Officer Jay, and their best friends and couple, Brian and Steve (played by comedians Brian Posehn and Steve Agee).

Sarah’s notorious stand-up comedy shines through in the episodes of her show, as every thing she does seems to spit in the face of anyone that takes themselves too seriously. The first and second seasons take on the Sarah Silverman perspective of controversial topics such as AIDS, abortion, religion (she sleeps with God. Yeah.), bestiality, and race.

The third season premiered last week and did not disappoint. Sarah is made to think she was born a hermaphrodite, and sported a mustache for almost the entirety of the episode, as well as the baby penis she allegedly had removed at birth. She wore a baby penis on a chain around her neck. In case you weren’t clear.

As much as I love her, I will be the first to tell you that Sarah Silverman is not for everyone. Her show is definitely not for those who are easily offended. It is also not for those who cannot handle insane amounts of immaturity (there will be farts).

But what allows her to get away with all the things she does is that gorgeous face of hers and her innocent delivery. What I personally love about Sarah, though, is that she is not afraid to look incredibly stupid, ugly, or gross for the sake of her comedy, which is incredibly hard to find in Hollywood females. Her comedy begs her audience not to take themselves so seriously, and she practices what she preaches.

Catch season three of “The Sarah Silverman Program” Thursdays at 10:30pm on Comedy Central, or check out clips from the show at comedycentral.com
