Who really cares about the Apocalypse?

Ok, so what is up with “Supernatural”? I mean, I love that they’re going back to the old school episodes, but first things first. Guys: go get the devil; you’ll have time for those other monsters later. As long as you don’t let angels take over your body and kill each other.

Last semester the show took a break, ending with the four horsemen of the apocalypse hitching a ride to earth, ready to follow the devil’s orders. Then, we come back from winter break, and our boys are hanging out in a psych ward hunting brain-sucking monsters, and dealing with a silly, scrawny kid who takes over Sam’s body. Sure, there are a few angels and demons here and there, but it’s not enough. I want a full-fledged battle, and I want it NOW!

There has been so much talk about Sam and Dean having a final showdown as Michael and Lucifer. It’s really unavoidable now – personally, I think it would be a cop-out to end the season/series any other way. This is where one of my major problems pops up: I can’t seem to get a yes or a no on whether this is the final season or not. Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, has said he is sticking to his plan for the story to only last 5 seasons, BUT that doesn’t mean he can’t start a new story. Also, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are both signed up for a 6th season. It sounds promising, but also painfully confusing.

So, Dean and Sam going to have a world-shattering show-down to end all throw-downs? If so, they’re both signed on for a 6th season, so they both must survive, but that makes no sense, because one side HAS to win. They already used the angel-pulls-Dean-out-of-hell thing, so that’s out of the question. They need to get going on this story fast, because I’m losing my mind with all these questions (don’t even get me started on “Lost”!). If Jensen and Jared are signed on for another season, then obviously neither of them are going to die, but to end this season, one of them must; There’s way too much peer pressure going on here for them to avoid being the vessels much longer.

A final thought: If Sam is Lucifer’s vessel, and Dean is Michael’s vessel, is this symbolizing that Sam is the ultimate evil and Dean is the ultimate good? Is this what John warned Dean about in season 2? It would certainly seem that way, but I don’t believe that Sammy is truly evil deep down. Sure, he drank demon’s blood, but it’s the thought that counts. He’s got a good heart.

My hope for the season finale: Sam and Dean fulfill their roles as vessels, but somehow maintain their own states of mind and manage to send the devil back to hell without hurting Sammy. He’s too cute to die again.

Also, if Castiel isn’t around next season, I’m done.

  1. Hahaha I love reading about your frustrations with your beloved CW shows.

Also, if you like a little comedy thrown in with vessels and demons and lucifer and whatnot, you should check out Reaper….it was an original CW comedy but they cancelled it last spring, but it may be returning as a syndicated show on Sunday nights on ABC. It isn’t a groundbreaking show or anything, but it’s some nice light entertainment. Food for thought!

  2. Actually season 5 episode 6 gave us an alternate vessel for Lucifer it was that cute kid named Jesse. I wouldn’t want him to do it but it could get Sam off the hook. They haven’t mentioned Jesse lately but he has to be around in the world some where. That might take the heat of Sam and Kripke for season 6. He was also part demon and he had great potential to go either way.

  3. I’ve watched Reaper too! The pilot was directed by Kevin Smith (my hero!), and then he served as a consultant for the rest of the series. It’s def cute.

  4. Totally not sharing your frustrations. This is how every season of SPN unravels. The last run of episodes are the ones that truly get down and dirty with the seasons big bad and mythology. And I disagree completely with your ideas that one side has to win, that Sam and Dean have to accept their roles as vessels and let Michael and Lucifer use their bodies to wage the ultimate sibling rivalry showdown. For that to happen, I’d have to believe that the show is going to try to tell me that free will is an illusion and Sam and Dean have no control over their destiny. Why in the world would I want to see that? What truly solves all the problems is for the boys to stick to their guns and figure out another way to avert the Apocolypse and send Lucifer back to hell. That’s what I want to see. The idea that Sam and Dean wouldn’t only be involved in body, not mind, for the ultimate battle against good and evil is completely unsatisfying.
