Housing Guide + Yearbook

575 COMMONWEALTH AVE. (AKA HOJO)

Rooms Available: Mostly triples, some doubles and singles

Claim to Fame: Used to have a sweet night club on the top floor

Superlatives: Most Likely To (Help You) Succeed

Ugliest Exterior

(Also rated #1 ugliest building in Boston by The Phoenix)

Although this old Howard Johnson hotel used to have a night club called “Lava Bar” on the top floor, the party atmosphere has not stuck around; however, the air conditioning and private bathrooms have. Also, the floors are pretty quiet and conducive to studying because most people keep their doors shut.

The triples have three lofted beds and the 7th floor has the biggest rooms. Although the cement exterior doesn’t do much for the building, the inside, especially the lobby, still has a nice hotel vibe with lots of mirrors on every wall and elevator. Although there is no dining hall, there is a great early morning and  late night cafe with coffee, cereal, pastries and paninis.
