The Man Behind All Those College Parties

Eric Marcelino (E-Marce) is a head DJ in the Boston 18+ club scene. He’s been working the scene for years now and manages to generate packed crowds to 18+ dance nights every week. The QUAD spoke with Marcelino about his experience in the scene.

Q: So you’re a DJ. How long have you been DJing?

I’ve been DJing for about 6 years total now.

Q: What’s your favorite kind of music and why?

Currently electro/house, gutch house, bassline…because its raw and energetic and gets me stoked to jump up and down and dance!

Q: Seems like I see you at so many events around Boston. Which events are yours?

THROWED is my Indie/Electro Dance Party.

CAMPUS is the hip-hop + party jams Dance Party.

Q: How did you start these events?

I just teamed teamed up with friends and clubs. Choosing the right team of DJs, photographers, bands, and promoters is key.

Q: What do you like about hosting such successful public events?

Its an f___ing blast. I’ve always loved performing and being a musician, so the transition from guitarist to DJ was simple. Getting to meet lots of new people who are into the same thing I am is awesome! It’s just one big hang-out session!

Q: Why do you think so many people come out to your events?

Because I create a fun atmosphere with great DJs and music at the right clubs! If you do something awesome then word spreads by mouth between friends.

Q: I think THROWED is your most famous night–is that correct? How has THROWED grown since it started?

I wouldn’t say that one party is more famous than the other. Both nights do really well. Throwed has grown and gotten much bigger so that we can now afford to constantly bring in big touring DJs and Bands. Although the people who come are the ones who make up the party, and they are the ones who have made the nights so successful!

Q: What kind of artists do you look for to book for your dance nights?

Talented bands and DJs…touring electro DJs. Anyone who can play high energy dance music and keep a dance floor moving all night.

Q: What do you like most about the Boston music scene? Is there anything you don’t like about it?

I think the scene here has been getting better and better. The music, the DJs, the people coming and supporting have grown so much with us here in Boston.

Something I don’t like? I wish Boston as a whole was less conservative. More stage diving plus bottle pop’ing is what I think our city needs!

Q: What are your future plans?

To continue music producing (check out my remixes as E-Marce/The Filth) and to go on tour more often!
