Say What: Spice Up Your Pre-Reg Planner

Registration season is upon Boston University. Underclassmen are trying to fulfill divisional studies requirement and rising seniors who have fulfilled most of their requirements are just looking to accumulate some fun classes.

A few weeks ago, College Candy and The Campus Companion posted articles on essential classes college students must take before graduation. Obviously, each university is different; thankfully, Boston University’s range is pretty large. BU has nine undergraduate schools and colleges, and several more graduate schools.

Cross-registration is possible in many cases. Students in College of Arts and Sciences and Sargent can enroll in the School of Public Health’s PH 510: Introduction to Public Health.  There are two-credit classes available through FitRec and College of Fine Arts.  It’s worth it to explore the Student Link and see which classes are available.

With so many options for electives, the choices can be daunting. The Quad talked to students around campus about their favorite classes with the most interesting professors to get a sense of what classes BU students need to take.

  1. Everyone should take HI 307: History of War with Cathal Nolan at some point for their history requirement! The material is extremely relevant, well taught, the workload is absurdly manageable, and Professor Nolan is an absolute delight, especially in office hours. Ask him about Lord of the Rings! Also, he really responds if you go to office hours. Getting to know him is a treat and very beneficial in the class.

  2. All ladies should also consider taking PDP PE 191 – R.A.D for Women! It’s taught by the best of BUPD and left me feeling much more confident on campus at night! I have also scared some of my friends with the knowledge that I’ve obtained, but that’s a side effect htat I am perfectly willing to deal with.

    Thanks for the Reference (TheCampusCompanion)

Also, classes that venture out of an individuals comfort zone can do wonders for confidence and can round out one’s college experience nicely. For example, guys could try something like social dance, or horseback riding…Or something that might be intimidating on a personal level.
