Creepers: To Love Or To Hate?

I know when you hear the word “creepers,” your first thought is usually of creepy men on the street that follow you home in the middle of the night and watch you from a window; however, creepers–the shoes–also exist. They were a fad back in the ’50s and ’70s, and people would wear them, every day, like it was the thing to do. Now, it’s 2011, and the shoes are making their way back on the fashion scene.

No, creepers are not on the shelves of every shoe store possible. But, the shoe can be found at stores known and loved by all, such as Urban Outfitters and the best online fashion super store, ASOS. They’ve been seen gracing the feet of fashionistas (and the not so fashionistas) on LookBook.nu as well as on countless random models seen on Tumblr. It’s fair to say that creepers are creeping their way on up.

I know you’re asking yourself – how should I feel about this? Is this okay? Am I uncomfortable? Well, the few times that I’ve seen them on the streets of Boston, my reaction has just been “eh.” That’s right – “eh.” The fashion world has brought back a shoe I am completely indifferent toward. I guess I don’t really like the way they look; I mean, they are a pretty strange (and ugly) shoe… but I couldn’t care less if others choose to worship them. If that’s something someone wants to do, I say GO FOR IT. Wear those creepers. Be bold. It seems as if they are on their way to be the next big thing, or at least, the next “biggish” thing.

All in all, creepers are creepy. It’s in their name – it’s inevitable, but do I hate them? No. Do I love them? No. Maybe in a few months or so I’ll be dying to get my hands on a pair, but for now, they’re just “eh.”
