Newsic Music October 11th-17th: Lady Gaga, Adele, Dr. Dre

Since the last installment of Newsic Music was so depressing, this week was a ray of beautiful sunshine in the bleak rainy weather that’s been plaguing Boston. Miss Gaga topped my week (as she usually does when she makes the headlines), but read on to see what else has been happening in the pop universe!

Lady Gaga Releases New Single, Video Info Leaks

“Marry the Night,” Lady Gaga’s fifth Born This Way single, was released on Monday. And just like “Yoü and I” and “Judas” before it, info and stills from the track’s official video have leaked online.  Fans caught footage of Gaga filming in New York, dancing on cars, and donning goth-inspired outfits. Photos of sets in Harlem and Staten Island have also found their way online.

Gaga, Adele Lead AMA Nominations

The ladies are dominating the American Music Awards nominations, which were announced last Tuesday. Lady Gaga and Adele raked in the nominations, including the coveted Artist of the Year, while fellow songstresses Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift also populate the ballot.  The AMAs will air on November 20th.

Dr. Dre Drops New ‘Beats’

Not literal beats, but rather his high-end headphone brand of the same name. Last week in New York, Dre revealed the product details of his upcoming line, which will include wireless headphones, an iPod dock, a boombox, and David Guetta-inspired headphones. U2 To Release ‘360’ Book

U2 broke records with their 2009 360° tour, and fans will soon be able to relive the whirlwind event in the band’s upcoming book, U2360°: The Official Story of the Greatest Spectacle in Stadium-Rock History.  Penned by GQ magazine editor Dylan Jones, the book will document the events of the tour, which grossed a total of $736,137,344 and shattered the Rolling Stones’ previous record for most successful tour.  The book is set to hit shelves in October 2012.

Taylor Swift Launches New Perfume

Taylor Swift’s new fragrance, Wonderstruck, hit stores last week, and the country icon told Billboard exactly why it is so unique: “This fragrance is really for people of all ages and I’ve had to talk some of my guy friends out of wearing it. So it’s debatable whether it’s, you know, for both (sexes).” Swift added that she stands by the product 100 percent and will indeed be gifting it to friends, just in time for the holidays.
