This week in chart-topper news: Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong exhibits a meltdown heard ’round the world, Usher hits the small screen and Rihanna reels in some headlines not related to her personal life (for once). Let’s take a look at the hottest highlights in pop…

Green Day Singer Has On-Stage Outburst, Announces Trip to Rehab

Billie Joe Armstrong’s on-stage meltdown at last weekend’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas left audiences speechless, but now the band is letting fans know that the uncalled-for outburst has prompted the lead singer’s trip to rehab for substance abuse. The singer dropped over 20 f-bombs before smashing his guitar and storming off stage, claiming event organizers cut their set short. However, Green Day later revealed in a press release that they were not cut off and Armstrong’s antics were unwarranted. The band’s new album, Uno, is out now.

LMFAO Goes on Hiatus

The party rockers say they will focus on solo projects while taking a break from the band. LMFAO member Redfoo told the Australian Associated Press that, while he and nephew Sky Blu have no plans to record together anytime soon, they are not breaking up. Redfoo recently co-produced Carly Rae Jepsen’s new single “Kiss” and says that he will continue making “party music” with or without Blu.

Usher Joins The Voice

Usher is the latest popstar to join TV’s ever-growing cast of singing competition shows. He’ll be joining Shakira on NBC’s The Voice as a mentor.  Meanwhile, FOX has signed Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey to American Idol and Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to The X Factor. Usher will be working alongside either Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera or Blake Shelton to help guide and teach contestants on their team as they compete throughout the show.

Rihanna Launches Mysterious Website, Drops Single “Diamonds”

After singing “Yellow diamonds in the light…” so many times in the opening line of “We Found Love,” you’d think Rihanna would be sick of the theme, but her new single “Diamonds” proves that shiny bling never goes out of style. The busy songstress also just launched a new website (www.Rihanna7.com) which, fans speculate, relates to her upcoming unnamed album. The numeral could merely be a reference to the fact that this will be her seventh full-length, or it could actually be part of the title itself–only time will tell.  The album is scheduled to drop in late November.
