Photo Story: Snapshots from Rural Senegal

This past week was “Fall Break” for myself and the other students in my study abroad program in Dakar, Senegal. A group of us travelled from the capital city to the southeast region, where things are more rural and less developed. In the photos below, the lack of modernity is readily visible. I chose some places to photograph that to us Westerners are commonplace and crucial in our everyday lives: the butcher, a church, a gas station, someone’s home, a hospital, the post office, and of course, a form of “take out” (bringing dinner home for the family). These places and things are also important in the lives of rural Senegalese villagers (they’re human too!), but it is amazing to observe them and their constructions comparatively with the ones we frequent in the States. Enjoy!
