World Hunger-Ending Grilled Cheese Sure to Make You FeelGood

On Friday night, the Boston University chapter of FeelGood premiered with a grand opening of its non-profit grilled cheese deli at Warren Towers’ Late Nite Café.

Following FeelGood’s mission to end world hunger within our lifetime, the student group’s volunteer members sold $5 gourmet grilled sandwiches, with all proceeds benefiting CHOICE Humanitarian, an NGO working to eradicate world hunger.

FeelGood BU is not just serving up the ordinary American on white, though. Its gourmet menu ranges from the fancy Caprese (mozzarella, pesto, tomato, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar) to the crazy Sweet Apple Sammy (cheddar, honey, cinnamon, and apple slices).

“I just loved the fact that the grilled cheese was not only a fundraising vessel but a platform for a conversation about world hunger,” said Chapter President Shannon Kelliher (CAS ’13).

The grand opening is especially gratifying for the chapter’s members, who have encountered many obstacles since the group’s founding in fall 2012. Originally intending to run a food cart, the chapter encountered financial and bureaucratic difficulties in acquiring approval from the Boston Public Health Commission, to the point that the chapter was unsure if it would even continue to exist.

But having been kept in the loop about the chapter’s activities, Boston University Dining Services came to the rescue, donating the venue space, 100 percent of the food product, and even allowing payment by BU Dining and Convenience Points (a first for any of the FeelGood college chapters).

If popular enough, FeelGood BU hopes to expand beyond its once-a-week offering of gourmet grilled cheese. They also hope to have enough demand to launch a late-night delivery service on campus.

Initial reactions indicate an optimistic outlook. “It was fantastic! The bread was really awesome and the cheese was wicked. It took them awhile to make it but it was yummy,” said Sarah Jasper (SED ’15).  “It feels good knowing I’m not only eating my favorite food but also supporting the cause,” said Chloë Walker (SED ’15).

Taste one of the gourmet grilled sandwiches for yourself and help FeelGood BU end world hunger, one grilled cheese at a time.

FeelGood Grilled Cheese is now open every Thursday night in Warren Towers’ Late Nite Café.
