Quadcast, Episode 2: Game Day

Boston University certainly has a sport culture, but it doesn’t seem to be like sports culture at other big schools. While football can seem larger-than-life elsewhere, games at BU are far from mandatory. There are plenty of people on campus who have never been to a game, and even more who haven’t attended one since first semester Freshman year.

But that’s not to say that sports aren’t important to our BU community. There are plenty of athletes on campus, and there’s definitely a fan culture around them.

This week, Quadcast takes a look at sports culture here at Boston University, with particular attention to its fans: those students who go to the games, who follow teams when they play out-of-state, who cheer in the stands night after night. We met with members of the Dog Pound (the group of loud, proud folks who cheer in our student section) and members of the pep bands. We even called sports fans from other schools, to give ourselves a point of comparison.

We’ll let you hear what we came up with. But just as a warning: we didn’t come to any decisive conclusion. We hope you’ll draw them on your own.
