New Indie Rock Coloring Book by Yellow Bird Project

I haven’t seen or used a coloring book in years, so I was surprised when one was delivered to WTBU a couple weeks ago. Upon opening the cover, the book’s purpose made sense: The Indie Rock Coloring Book is the new endeavor of the Yellow Bird Project, a nonprofit organization from Montreal that  works with  indie  artists to create  and sell t-shirts that benefit charity. I guess they got tired of T-shirts.

The coloring book is a new and unusual idea, but indie kids will eat it up–especially because profits go to worthwhile charities including Housing Works, the nation’s largest community-based AIDs service organization. The book starts with an introduction by Rilo Kiley member Pierre de Reeder and features pages of puzzles and pictures dedicated to indie musicians like Iron & Wine, Bloc Party, and The National.

It’s a collector’s item for fans who enjoy owning tangible mementos (such as vinyl and band T-shirts) of the music they love. Whether people give the book to their children to deface, or choose to put it on the shelf, it’s a pretty cool thing to own.

You can buy the book (and also check out some band T-shirts) directly from YBP here.

And Urban Outfitters hopped on the indie bandwagon and is selling the book here.

  1. I would love one of these. Seems like a cool idea. Would like to see one with pics based on the songs of the artists. Now that would be pretty sweet. Color in the picture of Sujan Steven’s song about Zombies, kids…
