Dance-Rocker Dan Deacon Beckons BU

“If you build it, they will come.”

BU Central learned how to properly book shows and fill out the venue. They changed things up this semester, booking more student-based slots and fewer (better) weekend concerts, which makes events like last night’s Dan Deacon show a thrilling success.

The local acts Nooka Jones and Magic Man opened the night, playing to an audience of over 200. Dan Deacon took the stage around 11 and unleashed musical mayhem, cracking awkwardly pleasant jokes while inviting audience members to engage in interactive activities. Once he revved up spectators, Deacon started his famous energetic dance show, encouraging everyone to participate. Just weeks ago, Deacon was featured in the New York Times for his performance at the MtyMx festival in Monterrey, Mexico, where he had a similarly formatted show.

Deacon is a clear example of mainstream indie–the kind of indie music that generates revenue and press and is often harder to book. The man’s talented and it’s because of BU Central that he made it to our campus. The openers were also cleverly chosen–both acts added to the night. The flier was also one hell of a visual promotion tool.

Nice job, BU Central.
