In the past couple months, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard has managed to marry indie actress Zooey Deschanel, and put out a new musical project with Son Volt’s Jay Farrer. If the Hollywood marriage isn’t impressive, the album is.

One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur, is a 12-track compilation of songs composed by the two musicians with lyrics based on Jack Kerouac’s Big Sur novel from 1962. Both Gibbard and Farrar cite Kerouac as an inspiration for their music. The album was released October 20 (the day before the 40th anniversay of Kerouac’s death) on F-Stop/Atlantic Records, alongside a Kerouac/Big Sur documentary of the same title, produced by Kerouac Films.

Gibbard and Farrar appear in the film alongside other prominent figures in the entertainment industry, including Tom Waits, Patti Smith, and Sam Shepard.

The album and film are available separately, as a CD/DVD package, a vinyl/DVD set, or in a limited edition boxed set including the novel, a 40-page book on the documentary, and the CD/DVD.
