Ingrid Michaelson Returns to House of Blues for Local Radio Show

It wasn’t a concert that I expected to change my life. I didn’t know who two of the acts were, and I barely knew the headliner’s new album, but I had set out in an attempt to impress new friends with my ability to appreciate music.

Friends quickly became much less important; the concert stole the show, so to speak.

The artist that blew my socks off was Ingrid Michelson, and the show was in the spring of last year. Thankfully,  next Tuesday, October 12th, she’ll make her debut back in town at the House of Blues. She’s playing with Guggenheim Grotto, a newer band that was at the House of Blues Foundation room on August 17th to promote their new album, The Universe is Laughing. The show is being hosted by independent radio station WXRV (92.4 FM).

Many thought that Michaelson would be a one-hit wonder with her song “The Way I Am,” but since then she’s teamed up with artists like Sara Bareilles and Joshua Radin. She’s put out three albums and several non-album singles. The music video for her song “Be OK” debuted through the Stand Up To Cancer Foundation, and she just recently released her new single “Parachute”.

What sets Michaelson apart when she performs is not her ukelele or her colorful band. Michaelson stands out because she doesn’t act. She can make a concert of hundreds feel like a get-together where some good music is played. She makes you laugh, makes you dance and makes you think.

While I enjoy Michaelson’s music, her performance is amazing. She’s witty, talented and refreshingly energetic. She loves interacting with the audience more than she loves performing for them.

Tickets for the show are $20, general admission, standing room only. The show is all ages. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the House of Blues website.
