NCAA Basketball Preview

Well, all I can say is thank goodness that’s over! After winning their previous two meetings, the Boston University men’s basketball team suffered a harsh 91-57 loss at the hands of the Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday night.

Thing didn’t look so bad for the Terriers at first, as 10th-ranked Kentucky held only a seven-point lead going into the locker room at the half. However, after what “must have been one heck of a halftime speech” by the Kentucky ring-leader,  says BU head coach Patrick Chambers, Kentucky charged out onto Rupp arena to initiate an 18-3 run for an additional 51 points to secure the rout…I mean win.

The Wildcats, previously 5-1, had been abysmal from behind the arc in the first half, shooting only 2-for-6, but came back with a 8-for-10 run for the final 20 minutes of the game. The Terriers, on the other hand, finished shooting at only 30 percent, making their record on the season a tepid 5-4. “We have a lot of work to do. We’re a work in progress and our margin for error is very small, but we’re going to get there,” Coach Chambers said after the game. I’m thinking that’s an understatement.

Despite the final score, the Terriers definitely competed, at least in the first half. They were 10-for-11 from the field and forced the Wildcats into eight turnovers. They even held a three-point lead at one point! Granted, it was within the first two minutes of the game…but who’s keeping track? Senior John Holland posted a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Junior Matt Griffin weighed in with 13 points, and Darryl Partin scored 11.

BU continues their string of road games with a match-up against Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.  Be sure to catch their next home game versus La Salle on Dec. 9 at Agganis Arena; your Terriers need all the support they can get!
