It’s Alive: Arts Live Comes to BU

Arts Live @ BU, a Boston University website designed to be a guide to arts events both on and off-campus, is hosting its launch party this evening, April 5th.

the new Arts Live@BU website.

The event will be held in the Burke Club Room at Agganis Arena from 4pm to 6pm. It will feature performances by many arts groups on campus, from the dancers of Fusion to the musical styling of the BU Pep Band. There is also an enticing roster of prizes available to attendees. The full list is on the website, and it includes everything from tickets to gift certificates.

This is all to promote Arts Live, an undertaking to bring together the large and varied artistic community at BU.

“Essentially, it’s one-stop shopping for all arts-related activities, events, and programs on both of BU’s campuses, as well as an informational database about other venues off-campus,” Arts Live director Chris Santos told the Quad on Monday. It will include a calendar of events taking place on BU’s campus, with added videos and graphics available. It will also provide information on off-campus events around the city of Boston, which, according to Santos, are “selected because they provided artistic program that anyone could afford.”

The listings won’t just be limited to large groups and events, either. Any group, from the Magicians Club to Synchronized Swimming, is eligible. And any artistic entity related to BU can be listed on the site, including dissertations or student projects.

“Projects that are unique, quirky, off-beat, or even singularly appealing can get featured in [the] Hot Picks [tab],” said Santos. “Because that section is more technologically laden, submissions that also include graphics such as photos, videos, or fliers will stand a better chance of being selected.”

For right now, Arts Live @ BU is focused on setting itself up as a fixture in the Boston University community. But Santos has high hopes for future growth. She hopes, with additional funding, the site will expand services and allow arts groups on campus to apply for grants and even reach out and connect with other schools in the area.

The Arts Live@BU Launch Party will take place in the Burke Club Room in Agganis Arena from 4pm-6pm. Admission is free. Student ID is necessary for entry. RSVP is required.
