Inspired by the vision of Occupy Wall Street, hundreds of disgruntled Americans gathered at Dewey Square in Boston’s Financial District to form the Occupy Boston movement. Occupy Boston, an extension of the growing Occupy Wall Street protest in downtown New York, has gathered thousands of participants in opposition to the practices of Wall Street and the condition of the economy. Under the mantra of “Its time for democracy, not corporatocracy,” the protest, while smaller than its Wall Street counterpart, has attracted a diverse crowd politically, economically, and culturally.
Occupy Boston is currently estimated to contain around 1000 protestors and has been a mostly peaceful affair. According to the Boston Globe, there have been approximately 24 arrests after protestors refused to vacate Bank of America property.
BU Quad photographer Jennifer Guay visited the protest on Friday to document the movement.
