butv10 shows: If You Like That, You’ll Like This.

While Boston University’s student-run television station, butv10, realizes that most kids at BU are unlikely to switch over to channel 10 instead of watching “quality” shows like Jersey Shore, that’s not to say that they don’t have shows that can easily be compared to some of the big name ones — just think lower budget (undergraduate student fee) and limited shooting/editing time (that whole going-to-class thing gets in the way). That being said, here’s a list of butv10 shows that you might like according to what other quality (or “quality”) stuff you watch…

If you like: cheesy soap operas, Gossip GirlPretty Little Liars, Degrassi

…then you’ll like: Bay State – The country’s longest-running college soap opera is filled with scandal, drugs, and murder. Dean Elmore even pops up in cameos from time to time. What’s not to like (besides yourself for being hooked on this sort of stuff)?

If you like: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (eek, why would you?), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Lopez Tonight

…then you’ll like: BU Tonight – It’s exactly what it sounds like. A little bit of comedy, a little bit of music, and a “celebrity” interview every now and then, all in front of a live audience (mainly the crew I’m assuming).

If you like: Real World, The Office/Parks and Recreation/Modern Family/other mockumentary-style shows

then you’ll like: Co-Ed – Basically an updated version of Warren Towers, cameras follow the lives of several college students (both male and female) as they try to live together in a suite that looks all t00 much like StuVi 2. Let the awkward sexual tension ensue.

If you like: 20/20, Inside Edition, Primetime, 60 Minutes

…then you’ll like: Inside Boston – A newsmagazine-type show that covers everything that’s happening in and around Boston. Pretty self-explanatory.

If you like: The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, SNL‘s “Weekend Update,” cheesy morning news shows that can easily be made fun of

…then you’ll like: The Morning After – Not to be mistaken with the Plan B pill (seriously, this show is NOT responsible for your unwarranted pregnancy), this new butv10 show stars two confident, yet clueless anchors (think Stephen Colbert’s character) reporting “yesterday’s news and today’s what we’re gonna talk about.”

If you like: Meet the Press, Hardball with Chris Matthews, The Situation Room, Parker Spitzer

then you’ll like: On That Point – This roundtable debate show has guests and regular panelists discussing their opposing viewpoints on topics ranging from politics to BU-related news. A televised “Coffee and Conversation,” if you will.

If you like: The X-Files, Supernatural, if the SyFy channel had a baby with Bones

…then you’ll like: Shadows – Not a show devoted to casting hand shadows on a wall for ten minutes (much to my dismay), this sci-fi/supernatural drama features private detectives (who make up “The Agency”) investigating spooky stuff that can’t just be explained by a law textbook or Detective Stabler.

If you like: ESPN’s SportsCenter, anything else airing on ESPN

…then you’ll like: Off Sides & Terrier Nation – One a regular sports talk show (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL), the other focusing on news about BU sports teams (including varsity, club, and intramural). If you can’t figure out which one is which, then you’ll probably want a refund on your tuition.

If you like: The Early Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America

…then you’ll like: The Wire – While most of us are (intentionally) sleeping through our 8 a.m. lectures, these college student anchors wake up at the crack of dawn to bring us local, national, and international news stories. It will probably pay off in the long run when they have to wake up early for their real jobs and the rest of us are unemployed because we missed too many 8 a.m. lectures.

You can watch butv10 shows on channel 10 if you live on-campus, or on demand anytime on their website, butv10.com.
