Photo Story: Campus Coming Alive
By Kara Korab Sep 4th, 2012
During the summer, the normally bustling Boston University campus quiets down. The crowded streets of Commonwealth Avenue aren’t nearly as crammed, and the atmosphere is more relaxed. But over the course of Labor Day weekend, campus has sprung back to life. With students returning from break, campus is jammed with moving carts and new freshman checking the campus maps every several minutes. New changes around campus like new Terrier Cards, 100 Bay State Road, and the new Pedestrian Malls are going to take some getting used to as students prepare for the 2012-2013 school year.
The George Sherman Union, which is unusually empty during the summer, slowly fills back up as the Union Court hours extend and students file back into campus for the new school year
Parents and students file up the staircase to Metcalf Hall for the final and largest freshman orientation, which is composed mainly of international students
A family poses in front of Marsh Chapel as many parents say goodbye to their children
Students line up for the Fresh Food Company's popular quesadillas the night West Campus dining hall opened for the school year
Instead of swiping their Terriers Cards, students scan their finger prints to get into the new dining hall at 100 Bay State Road, which was under construction all summer
All students must exchange their old Terrier Cards for new student IDs that will replace the BUID system for financial transactions
This wasn't an uncommon level of activity in South Campus, as most students who received free housing stayed in South this summer
