Case 4: Fire Alarm Fiasco
You’re in the shower one morning, and all of a sudden you hear a buzzing sound. You turn off the water you realize: it’s the fire alarm. When you quickly scramble out of the bathroom, you see that everyone from your floor has already exited the building.
If you smell smoke, exit immediately!— Obviously, you should not choose changing your outfit over exiting a burning building. Take the nearest stairwell to exit the building and wait for directions from building staff once you’re out. And don’t worry: “Even if you’re in just a bathrobe, we’ll find a way to keep you warm,” says Zamojski.
If there’s no smoke, grab some clothes—“When you hear the alarm, you have to respond as if we have a legitimate fire emergency,” says Mr. Zamojski. However, we all know that it gets a little cold in Boston. “If it’s snowing out or very cold out, it would be prudent, since you just stepped out of the shower, to throw on some warm clothes and then get outside as quickly as you can.”
